First Hand Research

The Brockton Makerspace Faire was started to inspire students of Brockton to think differently and learn a new set of skills. The program wants to promote their services and reach out to more students who live in Brockton. They want to have a website where they can talk about the program and students can post their projects.

Website Creator Programs

There are many website creator programs to help build a website. Some programs allow a person to drag and drop items on to the site, but limits a person to customize their theme layout or URL. Other programs allow a person to build their site by hand, but this could be time-consuming and stressful for people who are not familiar with the code. Many free programs allow a person to create their site, but they own the person’s website. For a person to own the rights to their website, they must pay a monthly fee for the program with the cost of the domain and hosting.

I am planning to use WordPress.org for this project because of their reasons:

• No monthly fee
• Can Set roles and access to the site for different people
• UnLimited use of  plugins
• Can build and modify the site without code
• Can use a child theme to customize the site.    

Other Makerspace Faires

Makerspace Faires in the country were able to reach out to students in their local communities and promote their programs. They were able to promote themselves on social media, websites, and apps.
